Nutrition Health Review; 3/22/1990 Bacteria Found in Shared Cosmetics About 5 percent of shared cosmetics samples on counters in U.S. retail stores contain bacteria that pose a public health threat, according to a recent survey by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. In a report to Congress, the FDA said it tested 3,000 "shared-use" cosmetic samples from more than 150 stores and discovered inadequate preservatives and contaminants that may be dangerous.
